Professional Development 

For employees looking for a learning opportunity to enhance skills or to expand knowledge, the Office of Human Resource Development (OHRD) collaborates with over 70 partners from across UW–Madison to provide an extensive array of professional learning opportunities for staff and faculty.

OHRD supports UW–Madison in its pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, and service by providing learning events and services to meet individual, group, and organizational needs and to promote professional development efforts within the university. In 2008–09, OHRD worked with nearly 1,400 events for over 25,500 participants.

In addition to the learning opportunities for all employees, Cultural Linguistic Services (a sub-unit of OHRD) provides interpretation and translation services in Spanish, Hmong, and Tibetan. Cultural Linguistic Services' (CLS) mission is to enhance communication, cultural understanding, and education in order to advance in multilingual work environments. Each year CLS provides over 2,000 hours of direct translation and interpretation service to UW–Madison employees.
